Congratulations to Karen F. who is our July Spotlight Success Story!!
We had the opportunity to talk with Karen and do a small Q&A.
Here is what she had to say:
Q & A with Karen...
Karina: What is your favorite inspirational quote? Karen: "You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think."-AA Milne
KK: What are your personal health and fitness goals? K: To get to a healthy BMI and lose the term obese.
KK: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals? K: The one thing that keeps me focused is and motivated is success. The closer I get to my goal weight, the harder I want to work.
KK: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with us? K: I'm 51 years old and have been heavy since graduating high school. I was a big roller skater back in the day. You could find me at Riverdale Roller World every Wednesday and Friday thru Sunday. I never realized how much I exercised while I was in high school until I started putting on weight and realized how much of an effort it was to get off the couch. Almost 5 years ago I was diagnosed with breast cancer after a routine mammogram. Went through a lot that year, all the while being overweight. Let's face it, obese. That word was on my paperwork a lot. My mind's eye didn't see me that way but the medical community did. I got sick and tired of myself. I would get depressed and try to motivate myself, try different things but nothing stuck. My biggest fear was getting hurt or sick and not being able to exercise and get myself together. I knew it was going to be a lot of hard work and I knew it wasn't going to be easy.
KK: How has Fit 2 The Core/ NutritionWorks made a difference in your life? K: Fit 2 the Core/ NutritionWorks has made a major difference in my life. Number one, community. No matter why someone walks through that door, the common thread is we all want to get healthier. Everyone supports each other. When I'm struggling to make the final 10 seconds of my plank and Cheryl looks up from hers and says, "You got this Karen, hang in" it makes me push harder. Of course, the awesome trainers motivate me as well. Dawn with her, "If it was easy everyone would do it." Lauren with her, "You can do anything for 10 seconds." Camille with her brisk, "Come on, come on!" And Karina keeping me organized and on track. The best motivator when all of them say, "Good job." I feel so much healthier and confident in my everyday life.
KK: What kinds of milestones have you accomplished and what specific results have you achieved so far? K: 21lbs less of me in 4 months. 4lbs left to half my goal which is 50lbs by December.
KK: What is your “word” of the year?! K: Sweat! Can't seem to stop nor get enough.
KK: What made you decide to want to join Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks? K: I got started with Fit 2 to the Core/NutritionWorks after years of trying to motivate myself and trying many different programs. I'd have a little success but go right back to my old habits. It finally occurred to me one day that I have minimal education in nutrition and exercise so maybe I should seek out someone who has and education in both. I would pick up my daughter at the dance studio and look at that big blue awning on the outside of Fit 2 to the Core/NutritionWorks and I thought, I'll just Google them and see what's up. When I got to the site, I realized there were many women with different shapes and sizes wanting the same thing I wanted, good health so I gave Camille a call. I knew I was hooked when the first thing she said was, "Tell me about you and what your goals are." I guess she had me at hello. LOL
KK: What kinds of results have you achieved so far? K: Number one result I never saw coming: after years of high blood pressure and medicine, four months in and my blood pressure is under control. Still with medicine but hey, it's great news!! Other results are pounds and inches gone. Also, I'm not as scared about what the next class is going to bring. At first I was horrified thinking I wouldn't be able to do an exercise or I would hurt myself but with the modifications and the fact that everyone is willing to listen to you and help you succeed, my confidence has increased and I know that if I can't do something the first, second or even the third time, no one's giving up on me so I can't give up on me.
KK: What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals? K: If someone is on the fence about making a change and committing to their goals I would tell them that time's a wasting. Everyday we're given is truly a gift. If you want to feel better inside your skin come on over and give it a try. It took as little as two weeks before I started feeling better about me. Wasn't even close to reaching my first goal but I knew I was in the game, I was trying. I started to learn things about me, "I can" and "I will" weren't phrases I ever used before. If "I can" and "I will", "You can" and "You will" too. No one at Fit 2 to the Core/NutritionWorks will give up on you.
