Congratulations to Mykela H. who is our August Spotlight Success Story!!

We had the opportunity to talk with Mykela and do a small Q&A.

Here is what she had to say:

Q & A with Mykela...

Karina: What is your favorite inspirational quote?
Mykela: “Do something today that your future self will thank you for.”

K: What are your personal health and fitness goals?
M: Some goals of mine are to gain muscle so that I can feel stronger, maintain a healthy diet day-to-day, and create balance in my life between my school, fitness, and diet habits.

K: What ONE thing keeps you most focused and motivated to continue to work hard to reach your goals?
M: I work hard to reach my goals because I knew what it felt like to be unhappy with how I was looking and feeling. Once I started to learn more about how I could take care of my body, I felt so much better than how I was feeling before. To me, the pain of the workouts and logging all of my food into MyFitnessPal is worth the confidence that I gain when I am happy with my body.

K: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and how you got started with us?
M: I am a student at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences in Boston. After I finished my first year of school, I came home and realized that I was not feeling as good as I should have been as a result of over exercising and not eating enough without even realizing it at the time. I knew that I needed to put on some weight and learn more about how to create a healthy balance of different foods in my diet so that I could build more muscle on different parts of my body. Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks has helped me in so many ways, and I am so thankful for all of the women in the gym who have welcomed me in and encouraged me to reach my goals.

K: How has Fit 2 The Core/ NutritionWorks made a difference in your life?
M: Joining Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks provided me with an amazing support system which was extremely important as I was starting to make changes in my fitness routine and eating habits. I have also learned how I can be more supportive of other people as they are working on reaching their own goals.

K: What kinds of milestones have you accomplished and what specific results have you achieved so far?
M: When I joined Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks, my main goals were to gain muscle and be able to feel myself getting stronger. During my time here, I have been able to accomplish my short term goals, and even my long term goals! I not only feel better about how my body looks on the outside, but I feel so much healthier on the inside as well.

K: What is your “word” of the year?!
M: Determination!

K: What made you decide to want to join Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks?
M: When I got home from school at the beginning of the summer, I was looking for a place to go to keep up with the fitness routine that I had going on at school. I was trying to decide between joining a regular gym and singing up for drop in classes at a kickboxing gym, yoga studio, or something along those lines. Then my mom suggested that I check out Fit 2 The Core / NutritionWorks since I would be able to learn more about how to give my body the proper nutrients while also trying to get into better shape since I was not happy with how thin I looked. At first I was unsure about it because I thought it would just be easier to do everything on my own without any help. Now, however, I know that I would not be where I am today without the support from everyone at the gym.

K: What kinds of results have you achieved so far?
M: So far, I have been able to gain a healthy amount of weight and my strength has improved a great deal since I joined the gym a few months ago.

K: What would you say to someone on the fence about making a change & committing to their goals?
M: I would tell them that making small changes in their daily routines and sticking to their goals will pay off in the end and help them to feel 10x better about themself physically and also mentally. Even though it can be extremely hard to change your lifestyle around, I think that it’s important to constantly remind yourself that you’re doing it for a reason and that in the end, you will feel so much better about your health.
